The Resonant Distortion of Silence

Anybody who says that skateboarding and music aren’t inextricably linked is either a liar, a kook, an ignoramus, or all of the above. From the dirty hippy radio jams of Led Zeppelin and Ted One (Nugent) in the ’70s, to the incendiary hardcore punk of the Bad Brains and Black Flag in the ’80s, to the hip-hop that don’t stop of the Beastie Boys and Wu Tang of the ’90s, to the new millennium where skaters appreciate a little bit of everything, a steady beat continues to provide the inspiration for many a session.

In a look back at the hardcore phenomenon of the ’80s and the bands that drove it, Nathan Nedorostek and Anthony Pappalardo have created Radio Silence, a coffee table-style book of photos from the scene with recollections written by the people who lived it. Contributors include Glen E. Friedman, Tim Kerr, Ian MacKaye, and yours truly, just to name a few. Head on down to your local book broker and tell ’em you’re going to do a stage dive off the cash register if they don’t get it.
