Stephen Picciolo RIP
By Brian Brannon
Skateboarding lost another great one with the passing of Steven Picciolo, one of the original pool skaters, due to liver failure. Though his skills on roundwall were never fully publicized to the skate community at large, his aggressive tendencies in early holes down Dogtown way solidified his reputation for those who saw him ride. Credited with early tail taps and frontside airs two feet out of the Topanga square in 1977, which boasted four feet of vert, Steven was by accounts ahead of his time. Winner of the 1975 Del Mar Nationals, that contest that brought the Z-Boys to infamy, Steven’s inspiration will continue to live wherever a hardcore session is going down.
