Gone Mod
For eight years, the NOLA Mod Dance Party has proved that it’s quite the step sideways from your general DJ night—the hallmark of the Party is the low-fi turntables and throwback vinyl records played by DJs Matty, Kristen, Pasta and MikeHurtt. You haven’t heard Brenton Wood’s “Gimme Little Sign” until it’s been played over an old PA with all the crackles and classic echo included.
Once held monthly at the cramped Circle Bar, the Party moved to the bigger but much seedier 9th Ward hangout, The Saturn Bar—the perfect place for the coolest of the cool to hang out and scrape their go-go boots on the concrete floor while under a giant vintage New Orleans Saints fleur-de-lis banner. So for those searching for a “Little Bit O’ Soul,” who are “Ready for Love” and ready to do “The Bounce,” this writer’s no “Liar Liar”—there’s only “One Way Out” when it comes to satisfying that hunger for the songs of yesteryear in today’s world—New Orleans’ own Mod Dance Party.
