Antics or Treat!
By Jake Anderson with Photo by Ryan Harkin
There’re usually two weekends of Halloween come October. The weekend before, and the weekend after. This is perfect for people who are worried their costume is lame, because they get a chance to know for sure that it does. This year brings us a special treat: Halloween on a Friday! The insanity will be considerably ghoulish. For the preamble Halloween weekend we visited the USC School of Architecture for the Warehouse Masquerade. The city’s finest goblins attended, as well as a fruity melange of superheros, robots, mummies, witches, werewolves, cowboys, schoolgirls, and Republican congressmen.
I rolled out my Heath Ledger joker version 1.0. Jared sported a ’50s-style skintight spacesuit with colorfully glowing helmet. We shot a video that posited him as a space traveler discovering a riotous Halloween party where, to his delight, he fit in just perfectly. Ryan was a naughty monk, wearing tear-stained sneakers and a cross around his neck.
Max unveiled some new screenprint designs, including a spaceman (NOT based romantically off of Jared), and robots hoisting boom boxes above their heads.
The dance floor was combustible, but those flames did not damage the curious live art provided by John Jeremy, nor did it melt the coolness of seeing a spaceman doing the robot next to a mummy doing the butterfly.
