The Beez Video is Killer

By Brian Brannon

Sometimes you run across stuff and you have no idea where it’s from, but you just know it’s going to be killer. Such is the case with this Beez video my buddy Carter turned me on to. The skating is by no means über-tech, and the music is reminiscent of Devo’s Duty Now For The Future, but the key thing that comes across is creativity, fun and an abandonment of normality—pretty much all of the things that turned me on to skateboarding in the first place.

Delicious Vinyl drops L.A. Old-Skool at Silent Movie Theatre

image

By Kyle Lemmon

Fairfax Village’s iconic Silent Movie Theatre cracked open some rare Delicious Vinyl Vault footage for a sometimes hilarious and always beat-heavy trip through L.A.’s early hip-hop scene. The crowd—surrounded by regal portraits of silent cinema giants—witnessed the shadowy Ramellzee and graffiti artist Jean Michel Basquiat drop some beats at Rhythm Lounge on Melrose. Delicious Vinyl artists like Tone Loc, Young MC, Def Jef, and Body And Soul showed up. The latter group proved to be a crowd favorite during their N.Y. video. The Soul Brothers popped and locked through a rowdy dance routine for the night’s closer. They wiggled their way into the crowd’s hearts and hips.

Pat Ngoho says VOTE!

By Brian Brannon

It’s pretty easy to sit back and say the world is messed up and there’s nothing we can do about it. In fact, that’s a cop out. If there’s one thing we can do as citizens of this great experiment called America, it’s get out and vote. And Pat Ngoho has put together a little skate video encouraging other skaters to do just that.

Quiksilver’s Clay Marzo: Just Add Water, Costa Mesa, CA

image

Text by Kyle Lemmon

“Waves are toys from God” – Clay Marzo

Clay Marzo, the subject of Quicksilver’s new surf documentary, Clay Marzo: Just Add Water, doesn’t talk too much but when he does, it’s often funny or decidedly poignant. The same can be said of the new documentary regarding the young surfer’s life. A packed audience at Orange County’s lovely Samueli Theater rooted for Marzo’s inspiring story last Sunday night. The film chronicles the 19-year-old pro surfer’s struggles with Asperger’s syndrome. These claustrophobic scenes are set against cinematic water mic videos of his visually stunning and creative surfing method. Marzo’s fish-out-of-water struggles are all but alleviated when he’s carving up the famous pipelines of Tahiti, Fiji, France, Spain, Australia, and Santa Cruz.

Coming Soon: “Beans: The Tim Brauch Documentary”

image

If you can judge a skater’s life by the impressions he leaves behind, then Tim Brauch was one amazing human being. Having known him myself, I can say that Tim lived, loved and skated from the heart. He was supremely talented, but also humble and kind. Watching him ride, you couldn’t help but be inspired by his energy and enthusiasm. He loved his friends and he loved skateboarding, and he made the most out of every second of the short time he had on Earth.
