On Tuesday November 4, as America eagerly awaited the results of its presidential election—as well as the Senate and House races and hundreds of disparate propositions up for vote all across the country—Antics posted up at the Beauty Bar in Las Vegas for our special election night congressional caucus. Plus-sized television screens aired CNN’s holographic glory while party-goers flooded the doors, drooling at the mouth at the prospect of riding history’s coattails into Wednesday morning. Funny Faces Photobooth joined us, bearing a box of political masks—on hand were Hillary Clinton, Ronald Reagan, Richard Nixon, Abraham Lincoln, and president-elect Barack Obama. Later, Eagles of Death Metal took the stage for ninety minutes of ruby rock.

I’ve been anticipating the release of Rock Band 2 for over a month now and when Max held it up to me at the Antics office on Thursday afternoon I squealed like a piglet. I’d grown so sick of the inaugural Rock Band that the last half dozen Antics events had found me belting out Robert Goulet tunes to drown out the nauseating choruses of “Say It Ain’t So”. The only song I could still tolerate was Rush’s “Tom Sawyer”, simply because the drumming is near impossible. Neil Peart is a vicious beast!

There’re usually two weekends of Halloween come October. The weekend before, and the weekend after. This is perfect for people who are worried their costume is lame, because they get a chance to know for sure that it does. This year brings us a special treat: Halloween on a Friday! The insanity will be considerably ghoulish. For the preamble Halloween weekend we visited the USC School of Architecture for the Warehouse Masquerade. The city’s finest goblins attended, as well as a fruity melange of superheros, robots, mummies, witches, werewolves, cowboys, schoolgirls, and Republican congressmen.

Besides being home to Governor Last Action Hero, Sacramento is also home to some of the most devout party-goers I’ve seen since my days in Santa Cruz. Sacramento is like a So Cal city that got displaced by an earthquake and slid up north. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. In fact, it’s kind of charming. The kids there are always excited by all things Antics—our shenanigans, larks, rigamarole, balderdash, tomfoolery and even our capers.

Usually when go I to Vegas I plan on scouring the strip until sunrise blinds me and I scramble back to a hotel room on all fours, having lost money I don’t have at a craps table and eaten six times the amount of food my belly can handle at an all-you-can-eat buffet, but this last weekend our Antics team traveled to Sin City with the mentalities of freshly-winged angels.

Howdy folks. It’s the big M-Dizzle, back with new jam. Now as most of you (Mom, Dad, Patrick and Connie) probably know, I’m from Los Angeles (the City of Angels). And being from L.A., I’m used to the temperature being at least semi-warm (anything below 60 and consider me p-coated). Now I love layering, and I love Denver even more… but OMG was it freezing this past weekend. There was even a chance of snow (not the Informer guy...the other white and soft thing… OOOOHHHHHH… talk about topical, huh?). But ladies and gentlemen, I’m a trooper (more like a Starship Trooper… never cared much for insects) and I braved the cold and ended up having a killer night.

Custom screen-printed tees at the Antics after-party

This year, ACL pushed the limits of how great a music festival can be. Let these striking photos serve as a testament to the quality of the performances (not to mention Antics) that went down in Austin.

I’m in our rented house in Austin… the A/C is blasting. My air mattress has deflated over the course of the 3 hours of sleep I’ve just had. Thorpe and I have been singing chewing gum commercials for the past 36 hours. Should I shower?? Shall I have myself a bowl of cereal and watch Saturday morning cartoons? On any other day, of course, but today is ACL day two, and I’ve got some music to see! When we finally gather the troops and get down to Zilcker Park (site of the three-day festival), it appears that the crowd has doubled!

Well folks, it’s official… I never thought it would happen to me, but I’m in love. Austin is AMAZING!! Surprisingly, this is my first time in Austin, and everything I’ve heard is correct. We rolled up the other night to our rented house to find an awesome abode, an unfinished bathroom, and a dog waiting to say ‘hi’ in the backyard. Of course we’re in town for Austin City Limits, and on night one, we threw an after party that was the jam + 1,000.
